Dr Adebayo Opeyemi is the Senior Program Manager and HIV Program Lead for the Global Fund GC7 Nigeria TB-HIV Reach Integration and Impact Project (N-THRIP). He oversees the implementation of TB and HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care programs across 36 states in Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory. He focuses on scaling gender-sensitive TB and HIV services, driving innovative strategies to achieve the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets, and strengthening health systems through data-driven approaches. He ensures seamless collaboration with government entities, partners, and stakeholders to optimize service delivery and achieve epidemic control.
With over 14 years of experience, Dr Adebayo is a Family Physician and Infectious Disease Epidemiologist who specializes in program coordination, stakeholder engagement, and implementation science. He has contributed to key public health interventions, including transitioning HIV services from PEPFAR to the Global Fund, advancing Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and harm reduction programs, and scaling community-led TB case detection initiatives.
Dr Adebayo began his career in clinical practice as a Family Medicine Resident at OLA Catholic Hospital, Ibadan, where he managed care for over 1,000 clients and developed treatment protocols for common medical and surgical emergencies. He provided primary and secondary care consultations and led preventive health counseling initiatives. His role also involved conducting routine office procedures, point-of-care testing, and coordinating patient care across specialties, laying the foundation for his expertise in program coordination and public health.
He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from Igbinedion University Okada, a Masters in Public Health from Texila American University, and a Masters in Business Administration from Bingham University. Additionally, he is a Member of the West African College of Physicians (MWACP).
His research interests include HIV, TB, health systems strengthening, and infectious disease epidemiology. Dr Adebayo has presented at national and international conferences and contributed to several peer-reviewed publications. He is a member of multiple professional bodies, including the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON), and the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN).
