Dr. Saswata Dutt is Senior Technical Advisor – HIV/TB/DR-TB. Dr. Dutt is responsible for integrating HIV/TB at all levels of the country, particularly at IHVN supported facilities. He is also working to ensure that 3I’s – Intensive case findings, Tuberculosis (Isoniazid) preventive therapy and Infection control are implemented in all IHVN sites for HIV/TB co-infected patients.
He is a member of the national technical committees of HIV/TB, TB and DR-TB. Dr. Dutt is also closely involved in the Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant TB (PMDT) at national level. In 2019, he was felicitated by the STOP TB Partnership Nigeria for his ‘Outstanding contribution to End TB in Nigeria through technical assistance’.
Dr. Dutt has over 35 years of experience in the medical field including more than twenty years in public health programmes, clinical research, medical consultancy and medical advisory of HIV/AIDS, TB (DS & DR-TB) and Hepatitis.
He has worked with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) as HIV-TB Adviser based in Swaziland, Southern Africa and also with World Health Organization (WHO) as a Medical Consultant in HIV/TB coordination and Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) in India. During his tenure with WHO India, the team implemented the HIV-TB coordination in the entire state of Bihar in India (a population of more than 100 million people), with request from Bihar State AIDS Control Agency.
Dr. Dutt has an MBBS from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, Jharkhand, India and did his Residency training in Post Graduate Medical University, Budapest, Hungary in 1990. He also has a Fellowship in HIV Medicine from the premier institution, School of Tropical Medicine and Medical College, Kolkota, India.
